Race Venue: Berkshire East Sprint

Race date for 2022-23 season is Saturday December 17.
Start time is 9:30 Series default on Lower Competition slope (immediately above base lodge).

Race begins with individual time trials at 30-second intervals (start list HERE).  
Heats seeded by those results will then commence with four racers each, two of whom will advance to the next round (structure listed HERE).
Consolation heats will also be run so that everyone has a chance to keep racing until exhausted.  After the finals, personal grudge match-ups are also encouraged!
Course breakdown will be followed immediately by tailgate-style prize/swag distribution @ upper parking lot (near ski patrol), probably no later than noon.

ISMF Sprint Description, key excerpts [w/ add'l bracketed asides]

1st Part:  On Skis [Skinning]
  • Approx. 30 to 50m of elevation.
  • After the start, approximately 200m [linear distance] of moderate slope.
  • Slope then becomes steeper, but has to be easily skiable (not too steep).
  • Circuit should be a figure eight designed with diamonds, and athletes can choose the most advantageous route.
2nd Part:  On Foot [Hiking]
  • Approx. 20 to 30m of elevation.
  • Ascent is made w/ skis attached to backpack.
3rd Part:  On Skis [Skinning]
  • Approx. 10 to 30m of elevation.
4th Part:  Descent [Skiing]
  • Descent must be fitted out w/ turns. The use of blue & red flags (as used for giant slalom), or other safe & visible elements, is permitted.
  • Athlete must pass through each gate.
5th Part: Finish [Skating]
  • Circuit must finish on flat area or w/ slight ascent, so that competitors must use the skating technique until the finish line. 
The following ISMF layout graphics are modified to eliminate (with somewhat smudged redactions) the original notations for the slightly shortened course for women & youths.
(Hence all participants will race the adult male course shown below, regardless of age or gender.)
