Mass start near the lodge:
- Skins already on skis.
- Determination on race morning whether start is skis already on or "Le Mans"-style (i.e., sprint on foot to lined-up skis).
- Follow green- and red-flagged wands, which correspond to the green skintrack (Bailey Brook Ski Tr > Holt-Clark Cutoff > Clark Tr > PJ Ledge) and the red ski descent (Alexandria Ski Tr > reskin briefly at Grand Jct > Kimball Ski Tr), with possible yellow-flagged bootpack to be added).
- Note that uphill route is entirely separated from downhill route *except* for the route cross at "Grand Junction" -- which is also the transition after descending the Alexandria Ski Trail for a brief skin up the Kimball Ski Trail before descending again.
- Transition zones between modes are indicated by change in flag color, and also by wands with blue-on-white symbols for skinning and skiing, plus possibly also blue dye on the snow.
- Each lap is 1,400' vertical gain/loss (including the short ascent at the beginning of the Kimball trail).
- Full Competitive Course = 3 laps for 4,200' vertical.
- Shorter Recreational Course = 1 or 2 laps.
- Layout subject to change based on conditions during flagging the prior afternoon and early on race morning.
